I have the right to prioritize, advocate for, and take care of my needs.
I have the right to ask for what I want.
I have the right to set boundaries and make decisions without feelings of guilt or shame.
I have the right to cut unhealthy ties.
I have the right to develop habits that support my self-care.
I have the right to a healthy work/life balance. My worth is not measured by my productivity.
I have the right to rest.
I have the right to speak my own truth.
I have the right to start over, pause, or keep going.
I have the right to practice self-compassion.
I have the right to be human; to make mistakes, to learn, and to grow.
I have the right to define what self-care means to me.
This is just one example of a Self-Care Bill of Rights. We encourage all Emerging Museum Professionals to adopt this model and to customize it for themselves.
Use your Self-Care Bill of Rights to document what makes you happy and healthy. Refer to it as often as necessary to remind yourself of your self-care wants and needs.
